About Me

Dr. Mickey Stein is a registered clinical psychologist in British Columbia. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Palo Alto and completed his internship at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. These highly-ranked training programs are accredited by the American Psychological Association. Recently, Dr. Stein completed his postdoctoral fellowship through Back in Motion throughout the Metro Vancouver Area. In addition to private practice, Dr. Stein provides clinical supervision to masters and doctoral students in the clinical psychology program at Adler University.


Dr. Stein has trained and practiced in a variety of clinical and research-based settings. His research experience includes working as a research assistant for the eating disorder lab through the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences at Stanford University, and the Mental Illness Research Center at the Palo Alto VA. In these settings, Dr. Stein conducted a range of psychological assessments. Furthermore, he completed his dissertation examining psychotherapy treatment outcomes in a training clinic. 


Dr. Stein’s clinical experience includes working in private practice, therapeutic outdoor camps, psychiatric hospitals, community mental health agencies, providing psychiatric stabilization services to those in crisis as a mobile crisis interventionist in San Francisco, and child and family treatment settings. As well, Dr. Stein assisted as a graduate tutor throughout his training for other students. 


Prior to Dr. Stein’s psychological graduate training, he completed his Honors degree in psychology from the University of Winnipeg. His concentration was in animal learning and was a research assistant in a rat laboratory, where he studied the impact of alcohol dependency and scalar timing theory in rats. Before receiving formal education in psychology, Dr. Stein was devoted to working with underserved youth, including those with mild mental health issues, to those with fetal alcohol syndrome.

Dr. Stein continues to conduct research that focuses on using assessment measures in an effort to identify factors of positive therapeutic change. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors, socializing, and being with his family and dog.
