Group (Social Skills) Therapy

The primary purpose of group therapy is to provide a comfortable context to help unlock one’s social potential by safely exposing one to social situations that might otherwise be overwhelming.

Individuals tend to learn to express their thoughts and emotions, while surrounded by other people who might have similar challenges. Verbalizing one’s fears and anxiety is a first step to a therapeutic experience as it lends form to unexpressed thoughts. By being together in the confines of a safe environment, clients will learn valuable strategies to express their thoughts and emotions, adequately interpret other people’s points of view, and understand social clues accurately and competently. Why does this matter? It matters because after all, one of the greatest joys in life is learning from others, connecting to them emotionally, and finding ways to express and share our emotions. Living a life of meaning is easier to achieve if the individual learns how to express their emotions adequately and successfully. Group therapy will aim to achieve this important life goal.

Group sizes will be small, to allow for individual attention. Participants will learn to manage stress and anxiety while role-playing real-life scenarios of human connectivity. Some of the strategies we will be employing are: general cognitive-behavioural skills, mindfulness, and connecting through real-life exposure.

The format and details of group therapy will be made available. Group shall meet on the following dates and times: Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Currently, group therapy will be held virtually.
